Hey,
I’m Lilly Koroluk. I’m a high school student who started learning how to play the guitar when I was 10 and am now a guitar teacher for students of all ages, especially kids and teens.
I started guitar lessons because I thought it would be cool to know how to play the guitar—to be that person who got the party rolling. I quickly discovered how fun and satisfying it is to be able to play a musical instrument. Today I play guitar (acoustic, electric, and bass), drums, and piano, and I’ve started learning the saxophone.
I think my passion for music started with my dad but it’s also my own. I enjoy a wider variety of music than my dad does—everything from country to pop to classic rock. Some of my favorites are Kenny Chesney, Eddie Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix, Jimi Page, and George Harrison. In school I take both regular band and jazz. I get really good marks in those subjects!
Music is so important to me that I wanted to make sure I understood it at a deep level. I learned college level theory online through skillshare.com and know how to read music.
My Guitar Teaching Style
I’m a nice guy and would never be hard on a student. That said, I want my students to actually learn how to play guitar so I’m direct about what they’re doing wrong and how they can fix it.
Sometimes students get frustrated when learning a new song and they want to give up. When that happens, I play them what I’m learning and let them see that I’m struggling with it.
Struggle is part of learning. If we don’t struggle, we don’t get the immense satisfaction that comes with mastering a song!
The way I teach is somewhat collaborative in that I will customize guitar lessons to my student’s desires. If you or your child are really keen on learning a certain song and it’s an easy one for a beginner to learn, we’ll start there.
If you already know the basics but are interested in developing your skills and endurance so you can solo, we’ll start there. Let me know what you’re goals are and I’ll tailor our guitar lessons to help you achieve them.
